Great article Niklas Göke. I don’t agree though. BMW and Netflix both have email lists. They both take your email address when you buy their product and they market to you relentlessly afterwards. I would agree that the article is the product here. Thanks for reading my article- want more of the same?- sign up here. That is no different to either BMW or Netflix. Indeed you cannot purchase Netflix without giving your email first. And then you can download the Netflix app, which alerts you, unbidden, to shows it thinks you may like. And on and on.

Asking for an email address at the end of a Medium article is actually pretty lightweight in the scheme of things. And it’s optional- don’t click the link if you don’t want to, but hope you found some value in the piece anyway.
